The Humor of the Gospel

Jesus: “Four thousand people are hungry, you got anything?”

Disciples: “Uh, we’ve got seven loaves of bread for the 13 of us.”

Jesus: “That’ll do.”

Jesus feeds 4,000 hungry people. They hop in the boat, sail to another place, get in an altercation with Pharisees, hop back in the boat.

And now, the direct quote from Mark, the most humorous of gospelists:

The disciples had forgotten to bring bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat. “Be careful,” Jesus warned them. “Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and that of Herod.”

They discussed this with one another and said, “It is because we have no bread.” (Mark 8:14-16)

Jesus: Profound statement.

Disciples: Dude, we forgot to bring bread again.  No, wait, there’s one loaf here in the boat’s glove compartment.
