A spat on top of the dirt pile:
Lia wants the dirt pile to be a car.
Ha’ani wants it to be a bicycle.
Lia is upset that Ha’ani doesn’t think it’s a car.
Ha’ani doesn’t want it to be a car. She wants it to be a bicycle.
Mommies perform routine intervention and remove both children from the dirt pile/car/bicycle.
10 minutes later, while on the potty–always an opportune time to think over the deep issues of life:
Complaining. Lia wants the dirt pile to be a car, but Ha’ani wants it to be a bicycle. She is still miffed.
Mommy comes up with a brilliant suggestion: maybe Lia can call it a car and Ha’ani can call it a bicycle.
Lia is instantly and completely appeased by said brilliant suggestion.
The efficacy of the simple approach is bewildering.
